Five years ago, in the smallest and least populated county in Colorado, in one of the highest towns in the continental United States, Silverton voters passed a ballot measure to allow OHV’s and unlicensed dirt bikes to operate on town streets. While the in-town travel is tempered with a designated route, the OHV friendly law allows visitors to park their trailers, unload their equipment and use their side-by-sides and ATV’s as main transportation in town and then uninterrupted up to the Animas Forks, over the famous Alpine Loop into Hinsdale County and Lake City, and other popular passes. Hallelujah! OHV enthusiasts rejoice! Off road travel booms and both guests and locals are happy with the arrangement.
